Eric Koston's Game of S.K.A.T.E.

éS Footwear and Eric Koston break new ground again with an even bigger and better Game of SKATE Tournament at the Action Sports Retailer (ASR) trade show in San Diego. Eric hand-selected the pros he wanted to skate with, and invitations have been sent to their team managers, homes, girlfriends or wherever we could find them. éS and Eric are dedicated to skateboarding and fun, and since the Game of SKATE is one of the most revered pastimes in skateboarding, we once again bring you Eric Koston’s éS Game of SKATE.

With $10,000 on the line, and over 120 pros invited, the crew at éS knew they had to make this event open to the skateboarding public. So, for only the second time in ASR history, the Game of SKATE event will be open to everyone. That’s right, skateboarders will be allowed in to watch!

And to up the ante even more, we created the Wild Card slot in the tournament, which will be the space reserved for the winner of the éS Game of SKATE Amatuer National Championships, to be held at 11:30 a.m. on the morning of September 11, at ASR. The winners from the Game of SKATE series tournaments in Tampa, Virginia Beach, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles and San Diego all qualify for the Finals, and the Amatuer National Champ will be automatically seeded as the wild card in Koston's Game of SKATE. Let's see what the young guns can do!

The Game is on Saturday, September 11 at 1:00 p.m. in the Main Hall of the San Diego Convention Center. See you there!

éS Game of SKATE

The Game of SKATE is based on the basketball Game of HORSE. Here’s how to play:

The first skater tries a trick, makes it, and everyone else has to make it. Whoever doesn't make it gets a letter. The first letter is “S,” the second letter is “K,” and so on, until “S-K-A-T-E” is spelled out, and that person is out of the game. When it's the first skater's turn again, he tries another trick. If he makes it, the whole process repeats.

If the first person misses the trick he tries, the second player tries his own trick. If he makes it, everyone else has to make that trick, in order. If anyone misses, they get a letter, and so on.

Rules for the éS Game of SKATE Tournament

Call your shot. Name the trick you’re going to do, sort of like a game of pool.

Once the board leaves it wheels, it must land on all four wheels. No rail landings, manual landings, caspers, or 50-50s. No hands on board. No hands on the ground, before or after trick.

On offense (when it’s your trick) the trick must be landed completely clean.

On defense (when doing the other guy’s trick) there is leeway for landings. This will be up to the skaters and the monitors, but it is truly objective: either the trick was landed properly or not.

The éS Game of SKATE will be a tournament-style head-to-head contest. Skaters are randomly seeded into tournament brackets for two-skater Games of SKATE. The tournament will be single elimination, so you keep advancing in each round until you lose one game and you’re out.

How to Join

We will be holding éS Game of SKATE tournaments in the cities indicated above. To join, go to the shop(s) listed above, and sign up on the sheet provided by the shop. There are limited slots available, and the shops will take in participants on a first-come-first-served basis. Sign-up sheets go out in each shop the Saturday two weeks before the event.

Keep checking this website for any updates on the schedules and contest venues. If you are not able to show up at the scheduled time and place, we cannot hold your slot, and we will allow others who are present a chance to join instead.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.

Prizes

Each contestant who makes it to the final round of the tournament will receive an éS shirt and a pair of éS shoes free. The winner of each tournament will also receive a certificate from Woodward Camp, good for one free week as a camper at one of their skateboarding camps.
